Abstract:
In this chapter, the basic concepts of electronic data and their organization in a computer-based information system are presented, from the simple bit to Data Bases and the different data types and their representation. The concepts of entity, instance, file, data set and data base are defined. Additionally, the concepts of data, information, knowledge and wisdom are presented, and reference is made on the distinction between the low level data representation and information representation, as well as the higher levels which incorporate intelligence.
