Abstract:
The generation of hot water domestically, is directly related to the personal gygiene and cleanliness of the household members. Moreover, it is also related to layndry washing and dishwashing. The aim of this chapter is the presentation of the basic operational principles of the appliances that generate hot water (mainly electrical and solar water heaters). The advantages and disadvantages of each alternative are addressed focusing on the environmental impacts. Best practices for reducing the environmetal impact generated by domestic water heating are presented and discussed, focusing mainly on solar water heaters, which constitute a very popular technologucal application of renewable energy in Greece.
